Prescott Valley, Arizona is a town in Yavapai County, Arizona. It is just 21 minutes East of Prescott, Arizona. Prescott Valley is approximately 90 miles Southwest of Flagstaff, Arizona, and 90 miles North of Phoenix, Arizona. As of 2014, Prescott Valley’s population is 38,568 people.

One of the town’s famous landmarks, Glassford Hill, once was an active volcano between 10 and 14 million years ago. Colonel William A. Glassford traveled the area in the 1880s and helped form a sophisticated system of 27 heliograph stations to monitor the movements of the Apache Indians, U.S. military troops and civilians. Glassford Hill was a part of that early communications system. Today, this landmark stands at an elevation of 6,177 feet.

Prescott Valley contains 13 primary and secondary schools. One of the highest rated schools is Bradshaw Mountain High School, which has a rating of 9. Bradshaw Mountain High School has 1,704 students grades 9-12. Franklin Phonetic Primary School a Charter School is also rated a 9. Following behind Public schools Liberty Traditional and Granville Elementary, are rated a 8. Public schools Glassford Hill Middle School, Mountain View Elementary, Yavapai County High School, and Charter school Acorn Montessori Charter School were all rated a 7. Public school Lake Valley Elementary, and Charter school Park View Middle School were rated a 6. Prescott Valley Charter School was rated a 5, Charter school Pace Preparatory Academy was rated a 3, and Acorn Montessori Charter School, Inc. – West was not rated. The public schools in Prescott Valley belong to Humboldt Unified District or Franklin Phonetic Primary School, Inc.. Prescott Valley public schools spend $8,145 per student. What can you do in Prescott Valley? You ask…

Go check out the “Castle”! Thomas Gibson Barlow-Massicks arrived in the area in the early 1890s and built the historic “castle” that still stands in Fain Park. Massicks had a hydraulic gold mining operation in Lynx Creek Canyon and built the company mining camp of Massicks, Arizona just east of his Victorian home, the Castle. The fireplace with chimney just inside the Castle’s fence is all that remains of the Massicks store. Fain Park preserves remnants of early 20th century gold mining along Lynx Creek.

Prescott Valley’s Fitzmaurice Ruins contain artifacts from the early Mountain Patayan people who inhabited the area some 14,000 years ago. Go visit Yavapai Lake, the Mesa Reservoir and Coyote Wash. Take the family to Prescott Valley Event Center and have fun ice skating! Or go enjoy a round or two at one of the beautiful golf courses!

The Prescott Valley Community Center Park and the Prescott Valley Recreation Area provide a host of entertainment opportunities for the enjoyment of adults and children. Freedom Station Family Fun Center, offers a range of recreational activities to visitors. The center offers various attractions, such as wilderness golf adventure and the freedom station arcade that offers an advanced video game room, including virtual reality.

Prescott Valley and the surrounding area offer a myriad of activities, from hiking and boating within 10 minutes in the Prescott National Forest, to enjoying fishing on Fain Lake to canoeing within 18 minutes at Watson Lake. The Entertainment District is located downtown and offers a variety of restaurants, a 6,000 seat event center, a multi-screen movie theater (Harkins Prescott Valley Movie Theater), and retail shops.
